The Scudetta is a ground-breaking boot. It’s crammed full of bio-based materials. Plus it’s vegan certified. But why should you care about all that? Well, to put it simply, football needs to change. And more specifically, football boots.
The harsh truth is that most boots are made from materials that are anything but eco-friendly – think animal leather and virgin plastics (read our blog about boot materials to understand why these are bad). These boots are worn for a season or two, then discarded. Destined to linger in landfills for centuries. It’s an unsustainable cycle, with over 12.5 million boots discarded annually in just the US and Europe. But with Scudetta, we’re breaking that cycle. This boot isn’t perfect, but it’s a pivotal first step in revolutionising football gear – starting with sustainable production and ending with our innovative boot recycling scheme.

When we debuted Scudetta at AFCON, we shook up the tournament. Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong, didn’t just wear these boots – he brought sustainability onto the pitch. Fans were captivated, not just by the performance, but by the question: How can these eco-friendly boots play this well? And what exactly are bio-based materials?
Bio-based materials are a bridge between the past and the future. You’ve got your old-school bio-materials, like your Gran’s cotton or linen, which have their merits. But today’s bio-based materials are cutting-edge. Sourced from things like bamboo, beans, corn, and more. These materials offer flexibility,
durability, and resilience – all while reducing our reliance on petroleum-based plastic.
However, innovation doesn’t happen overnight. Currently they don’t come from 100% bio-origins, since it’s still necessary to ensure these materials meet the demands of the game. But every percentage of bio-based content is a step away from unsustainable practices. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a significant improvement over the alternatives.
We’ve written a longer piece on sustainable materials so if you want to know more about them, you can read that here.

So for anyone that does care, here’s the nitty-gritty – the breakdown of Scudetta’s bio-based and recycled components. This isn’t just about transparency; it’s about accountability. We want you to know exactly what you’re putting on your feet and how it contributes to a better world (we’ve also included the recycled components because, although it’s not bio-based, it’s still eco-friendly and deserves a mention).
BIOTOUCH UPPER: 15% Bio-based Nylon from Corn
TPU FILM: 11% Bio-based TPU from Castor Beans
MESH: 56% Tencel from Wood Fibres
MICRO SUEDE: 25% Bio-based PA from Corn
KNIT COLLAR: 85% Recycled Post-Consumer Polyester from Plastic Bottles
LACES: 100% Recycled Post-Consumer Polyester from Plastic Bottles
INSOLE: 64% Bio-based EVA from Sugarcane
INSOLE TOP CLOTH: 34% Bamboo, 66% Recycled Post-Consumer Polyester
OUTSOLE: 89% Bio from Castor Beans
PACKAGING BOX: 50% Sugarcane, 50% Wood Fibres
Each component, each material, is a deliberate choice towards sustainability. So that’s corn, castor beans, wood fibres, sugarcane and recycled plastic. And don’t worry: If you find that hard to remember, we’ve also put the origins on the side of the boot. But we’re not stopping here.

This is a start, not an end. When it’s all added up, our boot is 42% bio-based (and another 6% recycled). But we want to reach 100%.
How do we get there? Well, we’ve got our finger on the pulse of production. Seeing what’s hitting the market each year and how we could utilise it. Plus, the more that people demand eco-friendly products, the bigger the incentive to develop new bio-based materials with even more of a bio percentage.
We’ve put the Scudetta onto the market to give you the opportunity to make a difference. To choose a boot that has less of an impact. Combined with maximum performance. A boot for the future, inspired by legends of the past.
And if you’re still on the fence, you can get £20 off if you recycle an old pair of boots with us. A no-brainer, really.
